Police
Unfortunately, PC Bassinder will not be returning as our Police Constable for Silverdale due to ill health, we are pleased that PC Tony Marsh is currently covering the post and that Steve Broadbent continues as Special Police Constable. There have been a number of thefts from cars parked in isolated car parks and villagers are advised to be aware of this problem. The police continue to monitor parking and speeding in the village.

Children’s Playground
Notices are to be put up soon with information on age limits for children playing on the equipment etc. The drainage to the aerial runway has been improved and works will soon be carried out to repair the runway itself.

Silverdale Post Office
Members are pleased that the post office has not been affected by the recent announcement of closures. Villagers are encouraged to continue supporting our post office.

Proposed 20 mph Speed Limit for Emesgate Lane
An open meeting was held in March to discuss the proposals and it seems that most villagers oppose the introduction of a 20 mph limit with speed cushions; the AONB has registered its opposition. Lancashire County Council will consider the various responses, following their consultation exercise, in June.

Annual Parish Meeting
Our annual parish meeting was held in the Gaskell Hall in March. Debbie Brooks, Director of Children’s Services and Carol Whitehead, Assistant Director of Ridgway Park School gave a very interesting talk about the work of the school and told us about their plans to reduce numbers in order to improve the staff/ pupil ratio and improve the quality of the living accommodation.

Annual Meeting
Our annual meeting was held in May – Councillor Terry Bond was re-elected as Chairman and Councillor Tony Houghton as Vice- Chairman.

Silverdale Station and Bus Service
Issues regarding the station and bus service are raised regularly at meetings, we are in frequent contact with the service providers to try and promote improvements to the services.
